Helen became the Chief Instructor in early 2019. She has worked his way through the ranks, joining Plas y Brenin as a full-time Instructor in 2003. As Chief Instructor, her primary role is to lead and support the Instructor team in all course delivery and to oversee and ensure that we deliver a safe and inspiring programme of courses for everyone. She is very fortunate to work with a great team of Instructors, all of whom share a passion for the outdoors, adventure and enthusiasm to pass this on to others.
Whilst Helen’s day to day role is predominantly management focused, she is directly involved with the delivery of many aspects of Plas y Brenin’s work throughout the year. This includes a number of Mountain Training Awards including the International Mountain Leader Award and many other skill-based courses.
Helen is a highly qualified and experienced outdoor professional. Many of her sporting highlights have involved being in the mountains undertaking journeys and expeditions to remote places in the world. However, more recently she can be found on a squash court where after a 25-year gap she’s picked up the racket again and now competes competitively. She currently represents Wales at Masters level becoming the Welsh over 35’s Champion for the 5th year in succession.
